Magnitude 5.7 quake strikes Mexico west coast: USGS

  MEXICO CITY: A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico's western coast on Tuesday, 16 miles (26 km) northwest of San Marcos in Guerrero, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake was felt in the resort city of Acapulco about 40 miles (64 km) west of San Marcos, but no significant damage was reported. "It was strong and we have just had an emergency. It was a gas leak at a home, but nothing further," a dispatcher at an Acapulco fire station said. "We don't have any damage reports so far," said Ricardo Resendiz, a dispatcher with civil protection in Acapulco. The quake, which struck at 11:07 GMT, was 12.8 miles (20 km) deep, the USGS said. ROSE MAPENDO arrives to MIAMI

by Adriana Ramos Who's Rose? Rose Mapendo is a Congolese woman from Banyamulenge Tutsi, a tribe from the High Plateauxregion of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In August 1998, a new rebellion broke out in eastern DRC. Banyamulenge and other Tutsi were attacked, killed orimprisoned. Her harrowing experience included the nighttime arrest of her entire familyby governmental agents, the execution of her husband, birth to their twin sons while inprison, and grim negotiations with prison guards to save the lives of her children. Thehorror finally ended when she and her family were rescued from a refugee camp. The Mapendos currently live in Phoenix, Arizona. Incendio en almacén de combustible en aeropuerto de Miami

AP –   Un incendio estalló el miércoles en un área de almacenamiento de combustible en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami. El supervisor de emergencias del Departamento de Bomberos y Rescate del Condado Miami-Dade, Eric Dellacatena, dijo que nadie resultó herido en el incendio que estalló el miércoles por la noche en una zona de almacenamiento. by Adriana Ramos International Relations President Obama started today his trip to Brazil, Chile and El Salvador in an effort to persuade the Americans that his Government is intended to extend US business opportunities in the region, based on mutual respect and equal opportunities for all parties. Nevertheless, many critics suggest President Obama’s effort will not succeed, because of the current economic recession that the US is in and the lack of interest from Congress to sign any further trade agreements, such as the case of Colombia[i] and Panama. Mayor Carlos Alvarez: You’re Fired!

Adriana Ramos From the 829 voting centers with a capacity to receive 1.5 million voters, yesterday Dade County makes a resolution: to remove Mayor Carlos Alvarez. With one of the highest rate of  unemployment in the Country, almost 10%, Dade County residents were angry after investigation that brought information that the tax increase -on property taxes- were used to increase salaries for only a few personnel of the County as well as to benefit some Companies. Outraged civilians walk with several signs reading “OUT TO CORRUPT POLITICIANS”, and after voting the results are clear “Mayor Carlos Alvarez you’re Fired”.
