The murder of three people at a school in New Jersey has further sparked an already contentious immigration debate, with critics of the city’s current immigration policies highlighting that one of the alleged attackers was in the US illegally and had faced serious criminal charges before. Newark city councilman Ron Rice said on August, he was introducing a bill that would require local police to notify federal immigration authorities whenever they arrest someone living the US illegally who is charged with committing a felony. The bill would be the first piece of legislation resulting from the shooting of four Newark college students.
Newark is a “sanctuary city” which bans cooperation between local officials and federal immigration officials. More than 60 sanctuary zones, including 30 of America’s largest cities now are been attack and facing possibly cutting federal funds, many “sanctuary cities” are evaluating their positions. These sanctuaries include Cambridge, Massachusetts; Los Angeles, California; Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Austin and Houston, Texas; Denver, Colorado; and New York City, just to mention some.
After this tragedy most of the American citizens, almost 58% of the voters, mention by Fox News, are in favor of cutting federal funds for this Cities that offer protection to illegal immigrants. But it’s important to mention that almost 71% of the voters, as mention in Washington Post are in favor of a proposal that would require to foreign visitors to carry a universal identification card. This has become a strong debate not only between the American citizens but in the future Presidency candidates.
As for me, I endorse a future proposal of a rational immigration policy, an a guest-worker program so needed in our Country, not only to seek an immediate solution in identify any foreigner coming to the US, to secure our borders, to stop the persecution from groups anti-illegal immigrants as Minutemen (with his operation Secure America), but to bring “amnesty” to our country. For those who still do not understand why in this debate is used the world Amnesty, please read.
Amnesty (from the Greek amnestia, oblivion) is an act of justice by which the supreme power in a state restores those who may have been guilty of any offence against it to the position of innocent persons. Amnesty International (commonly known as Amnesty or AI) is an international non-governmental organization which defines its mission as “to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights
